The whirlwind trip to Holland - June 24-26, 2000.
Two
days after returning to Germany from Albania, Steffi and I headed for the train
station bound for The Hague in Holland. We were still a bit tired from out
travels to and from Albania but pressed on to the next engagement.
When we arrived to The Hague train station, we found our way to a tram that would take us closer to our destination of the Johan Maasbach World Mission Church. From the tram stop, we would have to find our way based on directions Steffi had on a small piece of paper. We were two women determined to land our final destination... .and with God's help, we did!
We
found the church office and met up with a kind lady by the name of Catrina.
She showed us to our small apartment, which we could call home for the next day
or two. Steffi and I opted to rest for a few minutes, and then we hit the
streets of The Hague and enjoyed a dinner at a Chinese restaurant. Yep, we
went all the way to Holland to eat Chinese! =) We then joined the youth
meeting at the church, fellowshipped a little while, and called it a day!
We wanted to be well rested for the Sunday morning time of ministry.
Sunday
morning arrived soon enough, and off we went to the church. Steffi was a
great help in that she handled all the details of setting up the CD/Cassette
table, sales, and inventory. What a blessing to have her with me... not
just for the service she offers so willingly, but for her dear friendship as
well! I could focus on being sensitive to the Spirit and minister to the
best of my ability because I knew all the other details were being
handled. Hallelujah!
I
sang Unfailing Love, Not Ashamed, and Glorious Freedom (not on CD) as well as
sharing brief testimony. The worship leader, Frans, was a blessing as he
cared for the details regarding the sound and translation. As always, it
was a joy to be used as a vessel to touch hearts. I never dreamed serving
God could be so exciting and fulfilling!! I thank Him all the time for the
privilege of serving in this way.
We had a lovely lunch in the church afterwards and then headed to the beach
with Catrina, who was kind enough to show us around. We took the tram
again and walked the boardwalk. It was windy and cold, so not as enjoyable
as it could have been... but it was still a lot of fun. Along the way,
we discovered that Catrina's birthday was soon arriving, so we went to a Greek
restaurant to celebrate with her! She is a single woman living in a humble
abode, serving God with her whole heart, so it was our pleasure to be able to
share in her birthday! The fellowship was deep, rich, and full of
encouragement.
We were at the restaurant for approximately 3 hours eating, talking about
Jesus, eating more, talking about Jesus more... etc. I felt rather
self-indulgent at this point wishing I could be evangelizing on the streets,
when God brought a blessing. Kaltoem, a young lady who is a waitress at
the restaurant (although not ours), stopped at our table and was
curious why we were speaking English. Catrina went on to explain (in
Dutch) to Kaltoem about my visit, the ministry, etc. Kaltoem is
Muslim and began asking many questions. Well, by the time we left the
restaurant, another waitress, the owner and a few customers were given my
ministry card (by my agent, Steffi =)) and we ended up sharing the love of Jesus
with all of them!! We rejoiced as we left the restaurant knowing that it
was indeed a divine appointment. Catrina will return next Sunday with one
of my cassette tapes and a bible for Kaltoem who said she would be excitedly
waiting for them. Please pray that Kaltoem and the others would experience
a revelation of the truth and love of Jesus Christ.
After our lovely dinner and supreme ending to our day, we turned in for the night and headed back to Germany first thing in the morning. Glory be to God!
Hohenfels is next!
